I was over at a Tech Blog today, and saw one of the worst advertisements I have seen in my 17 years of living. I’m not exaggerating — I would like to know who created this ad. What was going through their mind? Even though advertisements often fool people (and do so successfully), I cannot confidently say that humans are stupid enough to fall for the advertisement I saw today. Sure, many women are insecure, often because of their weight, and will do just about anything to lose some weight. But in all honesty, I know a fair number of females, and none of them would be able to look at this advertisement without laughing — at its stupidity. Without further ado, I present you one of the worlds worst advertising attempts:
I’m sure I don’t even need to point out what is wrong with this advertisement, but I’ll do it anyways:
- Thes person from the before picture, and the after picture, are not the same person
- Skin color is not the same — is this a weight loss ad, or a tanning ad?
- I don’t think CNN, ABC, CBS, and MSNBC would support such a stupid weight loss claim
- Since when could one turn from Rossie O’Donnell to Jessica Alba, in 2 months?
Alright, mayeb I was a bit harsh in the last point. It just ticks me off because I know how sensitive females are with their weight. Now, there are legitimate weight loss plans out there, but one like this, is giving false hope to females. Young females particularly are quite sensitive when it comes to weight, and giving them false hope like this could be devastating. In my opinion, the advertisement above is at the same level as the one I have created below:

You recreated ad is very funny! Good work on that.
Yeah, these Ads are the worst ad I ever seen so far… They should afford a great designer to handle the work,,, Maybe this design was intended to make people remenber them… but then who will be crazy enought to click on it to find further informations? Well, maybe curious person whould do… but despite the fact I’m curious about a lot of things, I wouldn’t click on them…
lol, who would fall for these ads? I can’t believe people sent their time making them.
Benjamin,
That is a very good point — maybe they made these in order for people to remember them. If that is the case, they succeeded, but what’s the point then? Like you said, no one will click on something so stupid.
These advertisers confuse me!
I know, huh?
Pretty pointless advertising if you ask me!
Gooroo,
I’m with you on this one. That kind of advertising should make the folks who allow it on their site ashamed.
I’ll keep an eye out for some “winners”
Cheers
George
Haha, yeah George! I wonder what the CTR is for an ad like this…
Makes me wonder!
Shoot, people fall for these all the time. There are so many people out there just googling “losing weight,” “how to lose weight fast,” and many many more and when they see an ad like that they think its true. If it didn’t work do you think they would still have them up on these sites? They work, that’s why they are still up.
You know who can fall for this? A 24 year old girl who used to be hot back in high school and now gained a few pounds and is 210 pounds and needs to lose weight because she hasn’t been on a date in a few months. That’s who…
I think Jason hit it right on.
Am I right, or am I right? lol.
If there were a way for us to find out information on the people who actually click on those ads, I could bet you that 95% of them would be the ones I just described.
The second advertisement really strange =)
Hahaha Good catch..but all this happens now a days….
Haha, seems like it! Advertisers will do anything to bring in more customers — even things that I think would drive people away (exact opposite of their goal).
Hilarious second ad! Great job! Hey, if you put that ad out there somewhere, there would probably be some people to click on it.
Thanks Christie! Haha! I wouldn’t be surprised if someone clicked on it
Thanks Nicholas, glad you liked it!
Yeah, that is a good point come to think of it. I would be curious to know the CTR (like I said to George) for an ad like this though. I think when it was first presented, it may have had some success — but word spreads fast. I mean, I only saw it on one site — not like it was on the front page of CNN. Who knows though, it would be interesting to look into.
I made the second one
It isn’t real, haha!
But the first one is real.
