My Trip To Los Angeles – Summer 2009

by Ali @ iBlogPlanet on August 9, 2009

Guys, I’m back from LA already. Hope you didn’t miss me! It ended up being a shorter trip than expected because of some work related matters for my parents. I’m not stressing over the short trip though, because I made the most of it will I was there.

We started off the trip with a long, long drive. Instead of taking Highway 105, which would get us there in 5 or so hours, my dad decided to take the longer, scenic route (Highway 5). This really bugged me, as I hate,  hate, long drives. Like really hate them. You get the point. I put up with it though, and then took over the wheel for a good chunk of the drive. I did all I could to make this trip shorter, if you get my point!

Hilton Los Angeles Universal City Los Angeles large1 My Trip To Los Angeles – Summer 2009We stayed at the Hilton in LAX. Not a bad hotel, but it definitely wasn’t in the greatest location. Kind of a rough area at night. Really makes me appreciate where I live now, and what I have. Some people really see the worst of things. Anyways, I won’t make the mood of this post dreary, so enough of that!

The first night there, we basically stayed in. Seeing as we arrived at the hotel around 10PM, we were dead tired after a 9 or so hour drive. The next morning, we dropped off my sister and her friend at Disney for the day, and we started the day off at Venice Beach. Man, is there a lot of weird performers at Venice Beach! Not a bad weird though..a good weird! If you haven’t been to Venice Beach before, really consider visiting it. I can easily say it is one of the best places to visit, whether your 20 years old, or 60 years old. Everyone loves it. My favorite part was probably a performer named Perry Hernandez. I hadn’t seen him there the last time I went to Venice Beach. What was his “act”? He literally walked on glass, barefoot. It doesn’t sound that bad, until you see the video, or furthermore, in person. It’s a bit long, so just skip till you find the good parts!

Pretty crazy, huh? His feet didn’t even bleed. I didn’t understand how that is possible, but I guess it is. I even got a picture with him (kudos to me, haha).

I could go on forever, but I’ll make it short – Venice Beach was fun. As you can guess, it was pretty hot out, so we decided to go to Fox Hills Mall. The mall was enormous! And even better, everything was pretty cheap. I thought a mall in the middle of LA would be pretty expensive – but I guess not. Alright, by now, we were all dead tired, and decided to head back to the Hilton Hotel to rest a bit. We all took a nap, and kind of overslept, completely throwing us off schedule. Nonetheless, we went forward with our plans.

Next destination – Santa Monica. Santa Monica was really lively, and full of street performers as well. I’d say Santa Monica had a bit more of a classy feel to it than Venice. No question about that, but both were still great places though. We didn’t stay there too long, because we still wanted to get to Hollywood Boulevard. Unfortunately, by the time we got to Hollywood Boulevard, it was 3AM. It was really crowded considering it was 3AM, but it wasn’t really family oriented at that time of the night (in other words, not the ideal setting for my parents). The club scene was wild, and I think it’s somewhere that I fit in, moreover my parents (at least at 3AM).

We head back to the hotel, and got back pretty late. We all the it the sack pretty quickly, and got up in the morning to check out and get ready for the drive back. We took the “non-scenic” route and made it back in 5 or so hours. Not sure if it was because of the route we took, or because I was driving the whole time! And then guess what? I got home, and here I am now!

Sounds like you had a great time for the short time you was there. I watched the whole video. Could not focus on some parts, the chick booty was my focus. lol :)

Glad you had fun though.

Hahahahaha! I know, it makes me laugh. I was so confused. I didn’t understand. It looked sooo painful. Special talent right there.

I think you made a mistake here, you took “105″ instead of “105″? :)

Except for the driving it sounds like you had a great time. We have been to Venice many times and have always had a great time each time we were there. There always seems to be new acts each time we go. Santa Monica and Hollywood are great place to visit too. Fortunately we live in San Diego so they are all pretty close :)

Lucky you Doug! I wouldn’t mind living closer to there. Being in San Jose, it’s not like we can get up and go there every weekend at ease. But yeah, I always see new acts. I had never seen this “glass walking man” until this time. How far of a drive is it to Los Angeles from San Diego?

A couple hours… as long as it is not rush hour.

Sounds like a great trip! I’ve only been to southern California once, but I can certainly understand why so many people want to live there! Glad you made the return drive shorter, too. :)

LOL! Sire, all the babes were at Hollywood Boulevard ;)

Yeah, I got really frustrated. He took forever to get to the actual stunt. But it was fine — he was funny to listen to.

Sounds like you had a great time and all that matters. The battery is somewhat recharged a bit and you can carry on with your tasks at hand.

My brother has asked me to go with him to the US to tour a bit. I guess I need more cash as our Rand is not strong at all.

Performers are the best and my opinion is that they relax you as your mind is consumed by their performance.

Thanks George! :)

Which part of the US was your brother thinking of visiting? I’m guessing he would probably want to visit quite a few of the states.

If I may ask, where are you from?

My brother wants to do a tour, not one but many places. He wants to tour for almost a month and that would cost me loads of money. I’m from South Africa and never been to the US, still deciding if I can make the trip.

Oh wow, a whole month of touring. Yup, that’ll cost ya! South Africa — neat! Hopefully you can make the trip. There’s a lot I’m sure you’d love here in the US (but I still like my native country more – Canada :D )
