Alright, before I go anywhere with this post, I feel really hypocritical writing this. Nonetheless, let’s move forward, and you can judge whether I’m a hypocrite or now.
About a week ago, I wrote a post regarding Alexa Ranking, and how it is not important at all. I also went on to say how inaccurate it is, and so on. Even though I said all that, I did mention that the good thing about Alexa Rank is that it can be quite a good motivator for bloggers/webmasters. What I said has proven itself to be true within the last month or so.

Within the last month or so, my Alexa Rank has gone from somewhere in the 800,000 range, to 300,000. As you can see from the image above, between June 22nd and July 1st, I was able to increase my Alexa Rank by a lot (or decrease for the sake of Alexas terms). Its stayed down there, and my rank is improving daily. I am not CONCENTRATING on it – no, no! This is what I would call autopilot. Simply work on your blog, and your Alexa Rank will improve.
I didn’t do anything specifically to increase my Alexa Rank (like I said, I did not concentrate on it) but I will recap on what I’ve done in the time that my rank has increased so much.
Posting Regularly
If you view my main page, you can see that I’ve been posting here at Finance Advisory Stop at least ONCE a day.
Blog Commenting
I’ve been commenting on other blogs daily. In doing so, they return the favor, by commenting on mine. In order for them to comment my blog, they have to visit it, right? That means traffic.
Social Bookmarking
I’ve been submitting some of my best posts to Social Bookmarking sites. That also brings in a lot of traffic to Finance Advisory Stop.
Twittering
I’ve been working on my Twitter profile lately, and getting a lot of followers. I try to Tweet a couple times a day (no more than that), and it brings in a good amount of traffic. I try not to “over-Tweet”, or else others may view me as a spammer. I am following some people on Twitter who Tweet almost 5-10 times an hour. Kind of annoying.
That is about all I’ve been doing – nothing magic. Seriously, so many people stress about their Alexa Rank, but they shouldn’t. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, and look at me – my Alexa Rank has improved drastically!

Hi Gooroo
I like Alexa and think it’s a great tool! I don’t use to to follow my blog but I also own blogengage and I use it to traffic some stats! Google analytics is seriously the best
You should come visit our community sometime I think it would be great having you around voting and submitting your articles!
I’ve been blogging every day it’s it’s getting hard! I rally appreciate how you have been visiting so I will start peaking in here and seeing whats up too!

Sorry about this!
No problem Brian. My username is thegooroo.
Thanks!
Nice post, I hadn’t even checked mine yet will have to track it. You must go install google analytic right away, get that install it is key. In a mater of days you will know where all your traffic is coming from and what types of activities have the greatest reward.
Wow dude, great improvement. Make sure to follow up again in about a month, so we can see if you have improved again.
Hey,
Alexa ranking..!!
Well, the case with my blog, jammyspeak.blogspot.com was the same.
you had it in the range of 800,000
But mine was even not in 1,000,000.
But, yes maintaining the blog regularly helped,
and now when I am writing this, my blog is ranked 266,013.
Though, I want it to below 100,000..!!!
It’s cool! I can see the power of social media marketing, blog commenting is one of the effective way to build your brand. Anyway, 800,00 to 300,000 is a very good improvement, this shows that your traffic in this blog increases as well. Keep it up and you will get into top 100,000 in short time.
Regards,
Lee
Started in February 2009 (based on your archived) and you already got a 301,987 alexa rank. That is pretty impressive. I agree that regular update of original contents could improve your rank constantly.
I have in my browser alexa toolbar, and I can automatically see a website’s rank. Alexa rank maybe not accurate but it is a strong motivator for every website and blog owner to do great in website and blog development. So it seems you are great on it. Congrats.
Vic
My pleasure to come here always. I am learning and motivated by a young man. Though I’m also a young man at 28. Lol. I believe you will get the higher Google PR soonest. I am impressed on how you value people.
I don’t trust Alexa 100%. But regularly watching it.
Yeah, same here. It just keeps me motivated.
Thanks for dropping by.
Are you good to log in at blogengage now?
I never concentrated on Alexa rank till now…i believe it only increases depending on the traffic of the blog.
Thanks for reminding some of the tips dude..!
Anytime buddy! I agree with you — as traffic increases, generally Alexa does as well.
Thanks for dropping by
Lee,
110,000 is a really good Alexa Rank! Keep it up, and you’ll hit the 100,000 mark in no time.
Like you said it — work hard together
The more you post the lower your rank will be. If you post once a day or even twice a day, your rank will eventually be under 100k. I was posting like that and I’ve gone down to under 100k.
I have slowed down a bit as I’m working on next months posts and I’m sure it will go low again.
Hey Gooroo,
You’re just doing all of the right stuff: consistent posting of great content, commenting everywhere and using Twitter.
Heck, you’ll be down to 10k before you know it!
George
Thanks George!
Unfortunately, I’ve changed my domain (as you can see), so I’m back in the millions!
But I’ll be back down soon — hopefully.
4 min for every visitor are actually great. May I be rude and ask how many pageviews every visitor have?
Actually, it has gone up to 17 minutes per visitor. Not rude at all Stefan — the average pageviews per visitor is 5.2 here on iBlogPlanet.
Brian,
First off, thanks for dropping by!
I’ve heard a lot about Google Analytics — I think I’m going to start using it.
I actually recently joined Blog Engage, but have had a little trouble logging in. It says I am entering the incorrect password, but I have double checked, and I am entering the correct password. Tried resetting the password; same error.
Let me know if there is a solution.
Jared,
Glad you liked the post.
I will definitely be installing/registering with Google Analytics today — I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
Thanks for dropping by!
Thanks Jason,
I’ll definitely keep everyone updated. I didn’t think it would improve this much!
Jammy,
Your Alexa Rank is really good! I’m guessing you didn’t really concentrate on it, similar to me? Like I said, the best way is to just concentrate on your blog, and your Alexa Rank will improve.
Below the 100,000 range is reachable — keep at it.
Thanks for dropping by!
Lee,
Thank you very much. I hope to hit the 100,000 range soon. Still working at it though!
Thanks for dropping by.
Thanks Vic! It’s been hard work, but I know it will be well worth it one day. Plus, I really enjoy blogging.
Alexa is definitely a strong motivator for blog and website owners, like you said.
Thanks for dropping by!
You’re still very young Vic, no worries!
I hope my Google PR increases. Patiently waiting for the next update by Google.
Yeah, works perfectly now Brian.
No problem Gooroo, I’m working hard to hit the 100,000 range too as I’m stucked on 110,000 right now, need to work harder to hit the goal. Work hard together then!
Thanks for dropping by my blog too!
Regards,
Lee
George,
That seems to be exactly it. Not that it is really all that important — but I’d prefer having a site with an Alexa Rank under 100,000, rather than one with an Alexa Rank of 600,000. Heck, I think anyone would.
On the other hand, for a blog like yours, which has a lot of readers, there’s no need to worry if your rank goes low. It will pick back up.
