iBlog Movie Review – “The Collector”

Yesterday was my last day living in San Ramon, California, the city I had been living in the for the last year. I won’t go into too much detail about the city now, as that is not the point of the post. I’ll get to that sometime in the next few posts. Alright, so being my last day here, me and my friends decided to go to the theaters. I’m not a big fan of watching movies during the day time, so we all agreed to go to the late show –  10PM-ish. I don’t know how that is considered late , but it was the last showing of the movie we wouldn’t to see. Nonetheless, it was dark, so I was fine. I, like many others, prefer watching movies in the dark. Who watches movies with lights on? Weird people! Just kidding, just kidding.

By now, you’ve probably guessed that we saw “The Collector”. If you hadn’t figured that out after reading the title, I think we have a problem! I’m going to try to review this movie without giving away too much detail – as I’m sure many people will be inclined to watch it after reading my review.

First off, if you’re not a fan of horror movies, you should probably stop reading now. The Collector is made by the producers of Saw, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Couldn’t I have just said from the producers of Saw? I asked the same thing, but the previews felt then need to state that the producers made EVERY single Saw movie – not just 1 and 2, or 3 and 5, but 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Sorry to ramble – it just bugged me. I’m sure just about everyone knows about the Saw series. Pretty scary, right? The producers didn’t fail in making The Collector just as scary, if not more.

The story line begins with a handyman named Arkin working at the home of a very wealthy family. There are four people in the family – mommy, daddy, and the two daughters (don’t remember their names). Typical family, right? Sure. Typical house? Not even close. The house has a horrific past, which is shown right at the beginning of the film.

The handyman has to make a large sum of cash (they don’t say how much exactly) to give to his wife before midnight. She owes some people, and if she doesn’t pay up, they will kill Arkin, his partner, and his daughter. Arkin decides to break into the house that he does handy work for, as they are very wealthy. He plans to steal a very expensive gem they have hidden in a safe. Everything goes well for Arkin, until he reaches the safe and begins cracking the code. Arkin realizes that someone has made it to that house before he did, and the family is not on vacation as they were supposed to be. Instead, a masked madman is on the loose in the house, torturing the family horrendously. I think torture would be an understatement – I’ve never seen such horrifying scenes in a movie, honestly. Nonetheless, a great movie in my eyes.

I won’t go any further than that, as I will give away the film. It’s one that really had me on the edge of my seat (and looking away at times). Usually friends would give you crap for being a “sissy” during a horror movie, but we were all in it together in this one – I don’t think anyone wasn’t scared.

I know it was scary… but was it a good movie? It is worth paying $10 to see?

      Doug,

Definitely a good movie — if you like horror movies. The end kind of leaves you hanging, but it is evident there will be a sequel.

Btw Doug, keep quetion off, a bit off topic. On my homepage, under Recent Articles, do all my posts show a thumbnail? Or do some of them show a link instead? I’m having a little trouble with the new theme.

I see the thumbnails. Yesterday there was no image for this post under your Featured display… but there is today :)
