Just over the weekend, 86 Southern California High School Seniors were awarded more than $300,000 in scholarship money from the RMHC (Ronald McDonald House Charity). The majority of the recipients are said to be from Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Venture. None of these students were given an edge over others, and were selected based on their GPA (grade point average), involvement in the community, recommendation letters, and financial necessity. Very impressive work by these 86 students – and wherever they are now, congratulations to them. Too many teenagers are beginning to take high school as a joke, and it is reassuring to see students like these trying so hard – and also being rewarded.
Tonight, the students were honored at the Regency Irvine Hotel with a big dinner party – lucky! These kids parents must be very proud of them – I sure would be. To be picked out of such a large population in Southern California is what one could call and unbelievable feat. This is not the first time Ronald McDonald has provided such awards to students. In fact, RMHC has awarded over $3.3 million in scholarship money to students – only in South California.
Needless to say, these 86 or so teenagers are getting a great start in the real world. The money will take a lot of stress off of them and their family for tuition costs, especially in such a tough economy. They will not have to worry about student loans and such, unlike many other student. So financially, the scholarship will be a big help. As we all know, the economy isn’t greatest, and neither are many peoples situation – in the finance department. Also, the idea of being chosen for such a scholarship is very reassuring, and builds a lot of confidence in these young students. Hopefully this will help them get off to a good start in their first year in university, wherever they end up going.
Once again, congratulations to these students, and good luck to them in university. They worked hard, and deserved every bit of the scholarships they deserved. Way to go!
