E-mail Etiquette: Five Tips For You

We’re no longer in the era where visiting people physically is the primary means of contact. Nowadays, texting and blogging are primary means of contact between people, especially for those who make money blogging, or make money online. Of the two, E-mail definitely is a lot more common (in the business world that is). E-mail can be extremely effective in making money online, but there’s also some etiquette that needs to be followed, as is followed when talking to someone on the phone, in person, or through instant messenger.

Below, I’ve outlined six tips that will allow for proper E-mail etiquette:

1)      Actually Read the emails, or simply unsubscribe

Now, I agree with anyone that says spam is extremely annoying; I’m with you all the way. If you subscribe to something though, and receive emails, take the time to actually read what they are offering. You never know; the E-mail may contain something that could change your life (or begin a drastic change in your life). If you’re simply going to ignore all those emails, then just do yourself and the “emailer” a favor and unsubscribe.

2)      Not everyone is as knowledgeable as you

Statistics show that every day, hundreds and hundreds of people access the internet for their first time ever. Needless to say, it’s quite surprising that it’s extremely interesting that there are so many people out there who have never used the internet, or have just begun doing so. So keep in mind that you could be speaking (or typing) to someone who is very new to the online world. Help them out and be patient.

3)      Being prompt is essential

Don’t take days to respond to emails. Often times, people check their email, and just tell themselves they will reply to all those new emails later. Often times, they forget to do so. If you’re extremely busy, E-mail the person back and explain that you’re quite busy (or whatever the circumstances are), and you will E-mail them back in detail as soon as possible. This way, they will have a rough idea of when to expect a response from you.

4)      Be nice

With E-mails, it’s hard for others to tell exactly in what tone you are talking. If you make a joke, they might not be able to tell it was a joke without the proper emoticons and such. Throwing in a smiley face once in a while doesn’t hurt icon wink E mail Etiquette: Five Tips For You

5)      When forwarding E-mails, create a fresh copy

Nothing is more annoying than receiving an email, only to find that it is a couple hundred pages long. By this, I mean when the E-mail shows all the past recipients of that specific email. Instead, copy the portion you want to email, create a new mail, paste it, and send to your contact list. This way, you aren’t sending your contact list an email with tons of useless text; you’re simply sending them what you intended to.

I know this isn’t particularly about making money online, but in the end, I think knowing a bit about E-mail etiquette will pay off. I’m making money online from E-mail marketing on auto-pilot, and I think the fact that I have a good amount of knowledge regarding E-mail etiquette has been a big help.
