I’ve thought about this a lot, but only decided to bring it up now. I’m sure I’m not the only one who had these feelings. Actually, I know for a fact that a lot of bloggers have the same feeling, at one time or another. What is this “feeling” I’m talking about? Well, the feeling of wanting to quit blogging.
Now, we all blog for different reasons, but many, if not all of us, do have this as one of our reasons – money. Of course, money is not what it’s all about, but most bloggers feel they should be rewarded for the time they put in blogging. I feel the same. Many of us put in hours a day, working away at our blog, right? Would you do it for free? Maybe some would, but chances are, those individuals are already well off (financially speaking). I’ve come to love blogging more and more, even to the point that sometimes I can’t wait to get home and blog. That is the feeling I enjoy the most, but then there is the other side I experienced, which is negativity.
Today, this feeling hit me harder than ever. I blog because I love it, but I also blog in order to help my family out financially. I know it is not good to depend on a blog, but I’ve always felt that if you work hard at something, success will come as its counterpart. I’ve put in 6 months of hard work (not counting my change of domains) and have seen very little money. If I was a quitter, I’d be gone long ago. Many bloggers quite within the first few weeks, because they didn’t hit the big bucks.
While I was reading ShoeMoney Dot Com and JohnChow Dot Com, two popular blogs that rake in huge sums of money monthly, I felt a bit down. Seeing ShoeMoney’s $700,000 Comissino Junction balance didn’t help much either! And seeing John Chow’s “How I Make $40,000 a month blogging” only made the situation worse. I realize these people worked very hard to make it to where they are, but the question is this; why these individuals? I know people who work just as hard blogging, but aren’t at the same level as those popular bloggers. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw sometimes.
For all my readers, you know I’m not a quitter. I’m far from it. But I know everyone has this feeling to quit blogging one time or another, simply because the results aren’t there. Now, I made this post to unite us all – all of us who have felt like quitting blogging at one time or another. I want us to come together, and motivate eachother to continue to blog. I think there is nothing better than some support from other fellow bloggers. So hey, if you’ve been there, spill out your guts here.
In the end though, can you overcome the urge of quitting blogging? It is not a bad thing to have such an urge. Nope, not at all. I can bet you every last penny I have that a blogger like John Chow has felt like this one time or another. But like I said, did he overcome the urge of quitting blogging? Of course he did, and that is exactly why he is, where he is. I’ve overcome the urge, can you?

Never thought about quitting, until you mentioned what they are pulling. Wow, those numbers are huge, but I will still continue to blog. It relaxes me and gives me a sense of belonging.
Good to see you haven’t thought of it George (until now at least). I feel the same as you actually. Blogging really relaxes me.
I don’t want anyone to take what I said the wrong way. I’m not a quitter, but almost everyone has that urge when they are faced with a difficult/long term job.
I totally understand that feeling, but so far I have definitely not seriously thought about quitting. From everything I’ve seen, it’s those who have patience and get through the tough times that really do well
You’re completely right! If you can make it through the rough, you’ll succeed. I hope I didn’t mislead people with this post. I would never quit this easily. Just thought this would be thought provoking.
Good god man they are making a lot of money blogging. Forty thousand dollars a month? Well, now I just want to go and cry myself to sleep lol. That is just nice, I can imagine what I would do with that much money every month…
LOL. Ya, it’s crazy. I guess it puts us lower level bloggers down a bit, but on the other hand, it motivates me quite a bit at times. They did it — why can’t we?
I’d be pretty dumb-founded as for what to do with that much money…haha!
Exactly, I’d be going around and spending it all day long.
Haha! I’m with you man. I’d donate some though
Well, one thing, I’ll still blogging even if I don’t make any money online. Because blogging is my hobby, and it’s part of my life. Sometimes I may be busy (lazy) due to study and work
. If you’re a gamer, I’d recommend you to play some DOTA and you’ll feel the push to blogging again. Haha hopes that helps
Jacob,
I’m with you. Even though I get that urge, I think we all do. Just cause we get the urge, doesn’t mean we will. I’m tougher than that — I won’t quit!
Thanks for recommending the game. I’ll have a look.
I have never had the urge to quit blogging all together, but I have had the urge to quit blogging on certain sites we own that I do not feel as passionate about the niches anymore.
As far as money goes… everyone needs to understand that neither John or Shoemoney make all that money just writing a bunch of posts each week. They both run several different businesses where they use their blogs to help promote those other ventures.
I know what you mean Doug. Some niches just get boring.
That’s a good point as well. But their blogs DO help a lot in the money they make. I’d guess that without their blogs, the amount of money they make would be a lot less.
I have been blogging for over a year. I thought about quitting blogging more than once. Then I realize one thing. Blogging is a powerful tool I need in my online business and to build my personal brand.
Yeah, you’re right Deneil. There are so many benefits of blogging, which is why I have not actually quit. It relaxes me, allows me to meet people, and will let me build businesses more easily in the future.
thanks for this piece of advise. you’re right we have to be patience and don’t think monetary rewards just enjoy it!!
who knows we’ll be john chow in the next couple of years..
Rouwell,
I’m glasd you enjoyed this post. You’re absolutely right. Patience is key when it comes to blogging.
I know quite a few people who want to quit blogging & they do. It only happens, in my opinion, if the intentions of blogger are not materializing, no matter what they are, if they want to turn them into reality either immediately or effortlessly, they would turn into disappointed quitters. No complaints, Gooroo, if you felt like that, but now that you are passionately pursuing it (& it shows in your writing) you are not far away from success.
You just hit it bang on. As bloggers, we need to set realistic goals in order to stick with them, and avoid quitting.
Thanks Chris, I try my best! I can see you’re definitely on the road to success as well. Keep up the good work.
