To be successful as an entrepreneur, you have to go beyond the norm. I wish I could find this article I read online a while ago. It was about a man who always kept a notebook next to his bed. Why? He felt that his best ideas came out while he was laying down in his bed. As ideas and thoughts came to him, he would jot them down in his notepad. Some thought the idea was dumb, but to me, and many others, that was creativity at its best.
It doesn’t take a genius to come to the conclusion that small business owners must be innovative and creative. Without these two qualities, running their own business successfully is close to impossible. Does this mean that if you’re not creative, you can’t be a successful entrepreneur? Nope, not at all. If you find that you are not the creative kind, there are certain things you can do to become more creative. Let’s get right to those.
Think Outside The Box
Yeah, yeah, you’ve heard the saying a thousand times. But the problem may very well be that you just aren’t thinking outside the box. Many people these days seem to think in a very limited sense, which is not good. Everything is in a box, and it seems like there is nothing outside that box. For example, they read something on the internet, and automatically believe it is true. Their best friend tells them doing a certain task is not possible, and they believe it. I’ve never ran a business obviously, but I can say with confidence that someone who does not think outside the box will not make it far in the business world. See no end to things, and even if others say there isn’t a solution to a problem, tell yourself there is, and you will find that solution by thinking outside the box.
Look To The Future
I never really thought of this until I began writing this post. But think of it. Do most of our creative ideas not come when we are thinking of the future? A lot of them, yes. Try to picture yourself solving the problem in the future as well, as this can be a huge push (motivation-wise). Where would all the most successful businessmen be these days if they had thought of the past continuously, and not the future? Definitely not where they are now.
Get Organized
This isn’t the most important aspect of being a creative entrepreneur, but I think it should still be mentioned. Not being tidy will make your mind not tidy (if that even makes sense). What I mean is that you are not able to think as well when your surroundings are not neat and organized. Clean up your office/workspace, and you’ll notice that your mind will become a lot more creative.
Write, Write, Write
Back to what I said about the man and the notebook next to his bed, kind of. At least the idea of the notebook is similar. Carry a notebook around with you (a small one is best) and write down anything good that comes to mind. It’s weird, but I always find that the best ideas come to me when I’m not searching for them in my head. Even if the idea seems stupid at the time, right it down. Some of the those “stupid” ideas, turn out to be the best when looked at later on.
Sure, all the points I’ve mentioned above are good, and very important in becoming a successful entrepreneur, but what good are they if you don’t actually take action on your ideas? An idea is nothing more than something in your mind, unless you actually take steps to give the action life.
Go beyond the limits. This seems like mainstream quotes, but I’ll continue to stress them. I want to be a successful entrepreneur, and I want others to be successful entrepreneurs as well. I will continue to stress it until we are the most creative beings on the earth!
I’ll leave all my readers with one question. If you are an entrepreneur, do you think you’re a creative one? If you are not an entrepreneur, do you find yourself creative in a general sense?
Don’t be afraid to break down the boundary walls. As John Stuart Mill said, “That which seems the height of absurdity in one generation often becomes the height of wisdom in the next.”

Totally agree with you on the notebook thing. It’s strange to say it as an online person, but you can’t beat the old pen and paper for jotting down those great ideas that come to you when you’re not at the PC.
Thanks for dropping by Mike
I agree. I never used the whole notebook method until recently, and let me tell you one thing — it works! I’ve come up with so many great ideas which I plan on implementing in the future. It really is odd how we think of the best ideas when we aren’t looking for them.
I think a good extension to this is simply to use your cellphone a bit more. In this small device you can record thoughts and write long notes. Really great and since it’s so small you always have it on you, including when you are on a party.
Yeah, I think the notepad idea is just the basic idea. Point is to keep track of your ideas. It’s more common for people to use their cell phone to record thoughts (even I do it). Just like you said, the small thing can record tons of text!
Very good points! I am pretty good at most, but could be a LOT better at my organizational skills.
As far as your question… I would definitely consider myself a Creative one, as that is my biggest asset (IMO). The problem is the execution of them all, as I have so many ideas and so little time
Haha! I’m on the opposite end as far as organization goes. I’m a “neat freak”. I hate it sometimes though, as I get stressed over the smallest mess.
Oh man, talk about it. I come up with so many good ideas as well, but time is always the problem. If only we could freeze time..
Innovation is the key to success. Successful entrepreneur implements successful idea.
You got it Ricky!
I agree to ur points but without proper Marketing, everything fails. No matter how good u write, how good ur theme is, u have great writing capabilities but unless and until there is no good market of ur blog, u will fall straight. U are writing good but if noone knows ur blog, whois going to visit ur site
Atul,
That is a good point. I wrote this post with marketing as given. Of course, ones business can go no where without marketing. Thanks for pointing it out though!
The notebook thing really does work. ^^ That’s why I never leave without one, even just a pen and a paper. You just never know when it’ll hit you.
I think these tips are applicable to many incidents in life. Let it be entrepreneurship, online blogging, starting a new promotional project… to be unique and one of a kind, it’s a way to attract attention. =)
Fantastic as usual, Gooroo. Keep it up!

Me too! But when I don’t have a notebook or a pen, I just store the idea in my phone.
I agree with you — these tips can go way behind being an entrepreneur. Good way to look at things. Thank you for dropping by Ching!
another great tips i found from your blog . i really enjoy read tips from your blog
Glad you’re enjoying it
There are clearly 2 points which I appreciate a lot.
1. Mostly constant effort is the most under estimated point as it implies clear admission of the fact that talent ain’t enough. Very few know & value that constant effort is first key to commitment & success.
2. Your points imply more than obvious meaning to careful readers, which is the sign of really good writer.
Great work!
I’m with you all the way Chris! Talent is never enough. It’s all about wanting it, and working for it. “It” being success.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
Margaret
Thanks Margaret. I’m glad you like my blog.
The tips are undoubtedly good! I am planning to be an entrepreneur in my future life. I am currently a student, but I will surely try to implement the notebook next to me approach in my day-to-day life.
Yeah, it works like a charm. Good luck on your journey to becoming an entrepreneur. I’m sure you will be a successful entrepreneur one day.
